Britney Jean Spears was born December 2, 1982, in the small town of Kentwood, Louisiana. She began performing as a singer and dancer at a young age and made a nationally televised appearance on Star Search.
She was turned down by the New Mickey Mouse Club at age 8 but tried out again 3 years later and made the cast.
Unfortunately, her taste of the big time was short lived and the show was canceled after Spears' second season. After spending one year back in Kentwood as a normal 14 year old, she returned to New York where she had previously attended the Professional Performing Arts School. She began auditioning for pop bands and actively promoted herself through various means. One of her demo tapes came to the attention of an executive at Jive Records. This landed her a deal.¹
